Neuse River striper fishing trips

Fishing Report

Current Fishing 1/31/20

The striper fishing has kicked up a BIG notch with good numbers and size of fish over the past week. Storm soft plastics on 1/8th and1/4th ounce lead heads have worked really well for us all week. Both TFO's 6'9" light action and 7' ML action Inshore rods with FFP Osprey 1000/2500 and 10 pound Suffix line makes those deep water bites easier to detect. There have been a few shad showing up and February is really shaping up nicely for up river charters for "rock" and shad! There are still plenty of specks and small reds around. I will be speaking at the Saltwater Sportsman Nation Seminar Series in New Bern, NC Feb. 1st with good friend George Poveromo and at the Turnage Theater in Washington, NC with Capt. Mitch Blake, Dr. Tim Ellis and TFO's Jim Shulin Feb. 16th

Monthly fishing forecast

January

Winter fishing on the Neuse River, NC

Yes it is winter, but we often have a great mix of salt and fresh water fish. Good fishing for stripers, speckled trout, crappie, white perch and pickerel with a few surprises.

February

Neuse River shad fishing

Starts out like January but finishes with great shad fishing, pre-spawn stripers, panfish and speckled trout. Great month to combine a striper and shad trip from New Bern.

March

March speckled trout fishing on the Neuse River near Oriental, NC

Early March fishes similar to February with stripers, shad and panfish but the speckled trout fishing explodes in the creeks. Look for small reds there as well.

The Lower Neuse River and Pamlico Sound peak with speckled trout, redfish, flounder and bluefish and even the occasional trophy redfish. Great top water fishing!
