5-Hour Long Half Day and 8-Hour Full Days Available
Our Neuse River fishing excursions are customized for light tackle, artificial lures, and fly fishing. Captain Gary brings over 50 years of fly-fishing expertise to ensure an outstanding experience. We specialize in topwater action, soft plastics, and hard baits to optimize your chances of a successful catch. Our charters, available as full-day or extended half-day trips, can host up to three anglers. We provide all necessary tackle, gear, and a cooler with ice and bottled water. Please be aware that a North Carolina saltwater fishing license, and possibly a NC freshwater license, may be required. The freshwater license is necessary during our late fall to early spring trips when targeting red drum and speckled trout in our local creeks.
Located within the Inner Banks, Oriental is perched on the picturesque Neuse River, 28 miles east of New Bern, and is approximately a 35-minute drive from there. The village is reachable by air via Raleigh-Durham (RDU) International Airport, which is about a 2 1/2-hour drive away. Additionally, flights are available at Coastal Carolina Regional Airport in New Bern. This quaint hamlet, with a population of around 900, provides accommodations and dining options.
Speckled trout, also known as specks or spotted seatrout, can be caught in the Neuse River throughout the year, with the best fishing from October to June. The current North Carolina record for speckled trout was set near Oriental. We provide fishing trips in New Bern and Oriental, utilizing light tackle with artificial lures and fly-fishing charters targeting specks, tailored to the weather and fishing conditions. Feel free to contact us for any inquiries and available dates.
The Neuse River boasts exceptional redfishing! Our fishing charters on the Neuse River pursue redfish throughout the year, with a peak season from March to November. However, our winter fishing has also been outstanding in recent years. We provide both light tackle and fly-fishing charters, targeting reds in both New Bern and Oriental. Our redfish are frequently found alongside specks and stripers, or as trophy reds during the late summer. Feel free to reach out for any inquiries and available dates.
Bluefishing in the Neuse River has recently become quite a phenomenon. While bluefish have always been present, their current size and abundance are unprecedented! The past few years have been remarkable, and the action is incredibly lively at the moment. Adding red drum, speckled trout, and striped bass to the mix makes for an exciting grand slam. Both fly fishing and light tackle trips are available.
Striped bass are native to the Neuse River in North Carolina and are available to catch all except when they are on their spawning run in from mid-April until mid-May. Although these are not ocean giants, anglers can expect plenty of fish to 30 inches. The topwater fishing can be fantastic, as evidenced by the recent filming of another episode of George Poveromo's World of Saltwater Fishing. We fish for striped bass on both fly fishing and light tackle
